 'WALKING THROUGH THE BIBLE WITH JESUS'

A BEAUTIFUL SABBATH PSALM: Psalm 91:16 & 92:12-15

"With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. The righteous shall flourish like

the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they

flourish in the courts of our God. They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green;

to declare that the Lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him."

WALKING IN JESUS' COVENANT

God has always had a covenant with His people starting way back in the Garden of Eden, with His inimitable unblemished Eternal Covenant. After sin reared its ugly head, there were times of crisis, and temporary or improvised covenants were made to deal with fickle and disobedient people. God has always been the same, people were always saved by His favor and grace, and blood was always a part of the temporary covenants. Of the Covenants outlined below, 1 and 7  are the Eternal Covenant, and also overarch all other Covenants. God has always had a Covenant people.  "It is my family God has chosen! Yes, He has made an everlasting Covenant with me. His agreement is eternal, final, sealed. He will constantly look after my safety and success." 2 Samuel 23:5 (NLT)

SEVEN MAIN COVENANTS OF THE BIBLE

   1]   CREATION COVENANT - Genesis 1:26-2:3: Genesis 2:15-16

   2]   ADAM AND EVE - Genesis 3:14-23

   3]   NOAH - Genesis 9:8-17 [See also Hebrews 11:7]

   4]   ABRAHAM - Genesis 12:1-3; 17:1-14; 22:15-18

   5]   MOSES & ISRAEL – Exodus 3:1-10; 6:6: Exodus 19:3-6; 20-24:

             Deuteronomy 11:1-23

   6]   COVENANT OF GRACE - Genesis 3:15; Jeremiah 31:31-34;

             Matthew 26:26-29; 27:45-51; 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 2:2, 3; Ephesians 2:8, 9;

            Colossians 2:6-23; 3:12-17; Hebrews 8; 9:11-15; 10:8-10

             NB: The book Hebrews refers to the first and second, old and new Covenants.

             The first Covenant included sacrifice and temple worship, but the second or new

             Covenant of Grace includes Jesus as the Lamb of God, the High Priest, and no

             veil that separates God's people from Him. We now have direct access without

             the need of a priest - Jesus' blood was shed and He took our guilt to the cross.

    7]   COVENANT OF GLORY Isaiah 66:22, 23; John 14:1-3;

              Galatians: 4:24-27;Revelation 21:1-7; 22:12-21 - NB: The Covenant of Glory is in

              actuality a return to the original Covenant in the Garden of Eden at Creation.

KEEPERS OF THE COVENANT – THE REMNANT

 Romans 11:5

 Revelation 12:17

 Revelation 14:12

C. H. Spurgeon preached a sermon at the Music Hall in Royal Surrey Gardens on September 4, 1859, with the title ‘The Blood of the Everlasting Covenant.’ He read from Hebrews 13:20 “Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete…” and went on to say “It is called an everlasting covenant. And here you observe at once its antiquity. The covenant of grace is the oldest of all things.”                                                                                     spoedpos@fastmail.fm

Hebrews 13:8

The Seventh Day Sabbath  is an Eternal Seal of God's Everlasting Covenant
See: Genesis 2:1-3; Leviticus 24:8; Isaiah 58:12-14; Ezekiel 20:19, 20; Mark 2:28;
 Luke 23:52-56; Acts 13:44; Hebrews 4:8-10; Isaiah 66:22, 23

THE SABBATH IMMERSED IN GOD
eVANGELISM
Genesis 2:1-3 "Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made."
     # Why is the Bible Sabbath central to our salvation?
     # What does the Bible mean when it says that God rested?
     # Was He tired?
     # Had He worked too hard?
     # Was Creation an exhausting task?
     # What is the real meaning of Sabbath?
     The Bible answers in Isaiah 40:28 "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord, the everlasting God, Creator of the wide world, grows neither weary nor faint." God did not rest because He was tired or overworked. Even creating a universe is not hard work for God. God rested in another sense. He rested when He stopped creating - when He no longer had to make anything new for this world. This gives us an insight into the Torah’s definition of Sabbath rest.
     "It is a state of peace between man and nature. The Sabbath is much more than a mere ‘day of rest’ from a hard week’s work. It is a symbol of our belief in God's creation. On Sabbath, the process of creation stopped completely. We emulate God's rest with our Sabbath. The Midrash asks an obvious question. If God rested on the seventh day, how could He have finished on the very same day? If He did nothing on the Sabbath, then obviously, He finished on the sixth day. The Midrash gives us a most profound answer. It says that on the Sabbath, God created Rest. In order to understand this, we must introduce a still more fundamental concept: The more something resembles God, the closer it is and the more it partakes of Him. Indeed, the ultimate purpose is an emulation of God." Derech HaShem 1:2:22
     God dwells in Eternity, in a realm beyond change and time. He Himself told the prophet in Malachi 3:6 "I am God, I do not change." Rest, peacefulness and tranquility are therefore an imitation of God's attributes. God created the world in seven days. From day one to day six He created our world and everything in it in ascending order, from light to Adam and Eve, and then His final crowning and glorious act of Creation was the Sabbath day, the seventh day of the week. Jesus said "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" Mark 2:27. The full meaning of this Scripture is that the Sabbath was made, wrought and finished by the Lord and was a completed product - not for us to tamper with it.

We do not keep the Sabbath, the Sabbath keeps us. It keeps us faithful and close to our Creator God, Lord and Savior. (FGS)
