The Old Testament Sanctuary that God commanded the Israelites to build was made to be carried and then assembled when they camped during the wilderness wanderings:
Exodus 25:8,9, Moses is told, "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it."
God gave His people many tangible reminders of His love and care and of the way, worship and lifestyles that He required of them. The religion and spirituality of the Israelites became alive in the daily ministry of the priests, the feast days, the sacrifices and symbols of God's love.
The Earthly Sanctuary had everything divided into threes:
